Everything You Need to Know to Be a GREAT Board Member

The Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Nonprofit Leadership and Effectiveness Program is hosting a workshop training young professionals and community members who are interested in nonprofit board service. Workshop topics will include: 

  • The nonprofit sector’s purpose and structure; 
  • The role of governance in nonprofit organizations; 
  • The Board of Director’s legal, fiduciary, and ethical duties and responsibilities; 
  • Individual board members’ role and responsibilities; and 
  • Finding the right board position for YOU. 

Participants in this workshop will be eligible to participate in the Foundation’s matching program, which will connect trainees to nonprofit board service opportunities. Participation in the workshop costs $15. Use promo code “GNOF” to receive a $5 discount.

This workshop is intended for those who are interested in serving on a nonprofit board. If you are currently serving on a nonprofit board and your organization wants to deepen their knowledge of nonprofit governance, we have a Board Governance Intensive for more advanced learning. About Our Trainer: 

Maggie Pullen 

Agaru Consulting 

Maggie Pullen has a robust background in governance, strategic planning, organizational development, and facilitation. She has extensive knowledge of the strategy development and democratic processes of large membership-based organizations. In Louisiana, she has worked with a variety of organizations, ranging from start-up social enterprises, environmental groups, grassroots advocacy groups, and community development corporations, to established firms supporting individuals with special needs. She also co-founded and was integral to the pilot of a start-up non-profit that works with organizations across all sectors on operationalizing commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
