The study found that nonprofits successfully adapted to meet the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and that many even expanded their services to support the people of our region. The study also found that while a sizable percentage of nonprofits in Southeast Louisiana have Black and BIPOC executive directors, executive team members, board chairs, and board members, there is still a racial leadership gap within the region’s nonprofit sector, particularly in arts and culture organizations. 

There are many different ways to lead. Strategic planning, financial leadership, and board governance are great ways to strengthen an organization’s adaptability to unforeseen events. Nonprofit leaders are encouraged to register for these three leadership-focused learning opportunities that will help them steer and support their organizations.

The Foundation has announced $1,315,000 in immediate assistance grants to local nonprofits leading disaster response and has now distributed over $3.2 million in four rounds of grantmaking. 

Hurricane Ida made landfall in SE Louisiana as a Category 4 Hurricane, wreaking havoc all along its path, particularly in the Lafourche and Terrebonne parish, but causing damage extending into Jefferson, Orleans, St. Tammany, St. John the Baptist, St. Charles and other parishes. To make these grants, the Foundation team has taken guidance from parish officials, conducted due diligence and prioritized ongoing grassroots responses led by people who are native to the impacted parishes  and know their communities best. To date, we have awarded $3,182,000 in grants to our nonprofit partners.

The Greater New Orleans Foundation has announced artist Aron Belka as the inaugural COHN | GNOF | NOLA | ARTS Award program winner. As the winner, Belka will receive $10,000 and be honored at a special reception at the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Center for Philanthropy.

Today, the Greater New Orleans Foundation announced that after nearly 8 years leading the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s discretionary grantmaking and programmatic work, Carmen James Randolph will be departing to pursue a new venture.

Today, the Greater New Orleans Foundation (Foundation) announced that Jeff Schiffman will join the organization as Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs. Schiffman most recently served as the Director of Admission for Tulane University’s Office of Undergraduate Admission.
