NEW ORLEANS, LA (March 31, 2021) – Today, the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF) announced that the eighth annual GiveNOLA Day, a 24-hour online giving event for the 13-parish Greater New Orleans Region, will take place on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 12 a.m. to midnight. GiveNOLA Day 2021 is presented by Baptist Community Ministries and powered by Entergy. View the press conference recording here.
“GiveNOLA Day is a great example of how GNOF can leverage our role as a partner to both donors and nonprofits,” said Leann Moses, Board Chair of Greater New Orleans Foundation. “As a community foundation, we aim to build the capacity of our nonprofits so they can increase their skills at online fundraising and serve more people in our region.”
GiveNOLA Day provides support for over 850 regional nonprofits in the 13-parish region (Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, Tangipahoa, and Washington Parishes). These participating nonprofits work on a broad range of issues, including arts & culture, animal welfare, community improvement, education, environment, health, housing, human services, public safety & crime prevention, and youth development.
“The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated for us once again the critical role local nonprofits play in our communities,” said Greater New Orleans Foundation President and CEO Andy Kopplin. “In a region with many needs and opportunities, these nonprofits work to strengthen every part of our community from providing food, shelter, medical relief, support to families and seniors, and so much more. Please join us in giving as generously as you can to the organizations serving our communities on the front lines.”
Since its inception in 2014, GiveNOLA Day has raised more than $33 million for regional nonprofits. Overall, the majority of gifts are $100 or less, which shows that even small gifts add up to a huge impact. In 2020, GiveNOLA Day raised a record $7.1 million in donations for 835 nonprofits. The total number of contributions exceeded 68,000 at the close of the 24-hour period. Learn more about GiveNOLA Day 2020 here.
“As a fellow foundation, we are excited to celebrate our 25th anniversary by serving as the Presenting Sponsor for GiveNOLA Day 2021,” said Slade Simons, Baptist Community Ministries (BCM) Board Chair. “With more than 850 nonprofits participating, everyone who loves the Greater New Orleans region is sure to find a cause they feel good about donating to. And on a day like GiveNOLA Day, every single donation counts.”
“Nonprofits rely heavily on donations to support their missions, and the stress of a pandemic has only heightened the need for giving,” said Christy Ross, BCM Senior Vice President, Grants. “We look forward to continuing our support of local nonprofits by serving as the Presenting Sponsor of GiveNOLA Day. Since GiveNOLA Day has raised over $33 million in just seven years, we anticipate another great turnout for 2021.”
“While we celebrate New Orleans’ rich and unique history every day, we are also keenly aware of the path we need to take to ensure its successful future growth,” said David Ellis, President and CEO of Entergy New Orleans. “Entergy is proud to support the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s GiveNOLA Day and their commitment to ensuring our local communities have the resources and opportunities to grow and thrive.”
“Each year, thousands of community members go without the help they need due to the stigma attached to mental health care; this is the largest barrier to accessing the appropriate treatments. GiveNOLA Day provides our organization a platform to share our message that it is okay not to be okay,” said Nick Richard, Executive Director of NAMI St. Tammany. “We are not only able to raise much needed funds to expand our services, but to build partnerships with local organizations and build a healthier community. We are grateful to the Greater New Orleans Foundation for sharing the importance of mental health care.”
“IPNO has been participating in GiveNOLA Day every year since its inception eight years ago,” said Jee Park, Executive Director of Innocence Project New Orleans. “In our first year, IPNO received donations from less than 100 individuals. By last year, our giving circle of generous individual donors increased to more than 1,100. Through GiveNOLA Day, not only has our network of individual donors steadily grown, but new supporters have come to learn about and deeply care for IPNO’s work of freeing innocent prisoners. Increasingly each year, our supporters in New Orleans and beyond mark GiveNOLA Day as the day to support and give to IPNO. It has become a truly remarkable day focused on giving, supporting and celebrating nonprofits who are making lives better in the greater New Orleans area, and IPNO is grateful to GNOF for having the vision to create this day of giving eight years ago.”
“The Split Second Foundation is very excited to participate in our third GiveNOLA Day,” said Mark Raymond, Jr., Founder and CEO of Split Second Foundation. “This initiative of the Greater New Orleans Foundation has been an excellent platform for fundraising and advocacy for our organization and community. The Split Second Foundation relies on the generous support from GiveNOLA Day philanthropists to continue offering critical resources and programming for our facility that provides recovery, ongoing fitness, and education for people living with paralysis, stroke or amputation.”
